Looking Ahead to 2008: Five Trends We See in Your Future

The year of the mini dress, the bandage dress and bubble hems is coming to a close. Although it’s a safe bet that we’ll see a few of the the trends from 2007 carry into 2008, next year has a slew of new styles up it’s sleeve. So why not be ahead of the curve? We’ve put together a list of the five soon to be trends that you’ll definitely be seeing in the new year.

1. Dip Dyed Hems

Don’t worry, it’s not 70′s tye dye. Dip dyed hems are more of a classic approach to tye dye, and it’s a look that was seen across the board at the last New York Fashion week. Designers like Matthew Williamson , Max Azria (both pictured above) , Zac Posen and Luella Bartley are including this trend in their Spring/Summer collections. Even if those particular designers are a bit out of your price range, don’t fret; our budget friendly favorites are sure to catch on to this trend as well. And if you don’t you can always update your own garments by whipping up a dye concoction of your own; think of it as a DIY project!

2. The Maxi Dress

Say bye bye to leg baring hems. In the Spring especially, look for casual ankle and floor length dresses, to flood your favorite stores. And yes, this is a casual look. To pull it off look for basic colors or simple, springy prints. Shorter women should stick to more a more streamlined silhouette while taller women can experiment a bit more with volume. Paired with a cute strappy sandal, this style can actually be a chic and laid back look or Spring.

3. Tribal

One of the strongest trends we noticed across the Spring/Summer ’08 runway shows was the use of tribal influenced elements. And we’re not just talking about prints, but also colors, textures, accessories and even silhouette. You’ll notice this when it hits stores by the ethnic prints, earth tones, wooden beading and a modified tunic shape.

4. Sheer

Also known as vapor or transparency, or more simply put, see through. This light and airy look was pretty much made for spring, and is incredibly wearable. There are so many ways to sport this trend, whether it be a sheer blouse with a cami underneath, a dress with a sheer overlay, or perhaps any type of garment with transparent panels worked in. And oddly enough you just might see your significant other wearing this as well since the trend has carried over in to menswear.

5. Muted Colors for Spring

Last but not least, we have the trend that will effect just about every other trend. In stead of your usual pastels that usually flood the stores, especially right around Easter, look for more muted shades of the same colors. We predict that muted greens, purples and icy shades of blue will be especially popular, along with earth tones and shades of grey. So don’t be so quick to pack away all of your fall clothes, some of them just might carry over in to spring.
