If you are petite, tunic looks can be really frustrating. You might want to wear a thigh-grazing top that cinches to show off cute capris or a great pair of jeans, but when it looks like a dress, all is not lost. While one option is sticking to petite sizes (where you can truly find great options), you can also get a little more creative to get that tunic look.

Hunt Out “Hidden Petites”
Some tos aren’t necessarily tunics, but you can wear them like that if you’d like. Stop shopping for strictly tunics and branching out into the “Tops and Blouses” section of any website. This Shirred Romper from ShopBop is barely a tunic for anyone tall, but you’ll probably find that its length works out well for you if you are a little shorter in stature. Try it with heels, too, to make it look a little shorter.

Why Tunics?
Tunics are fantastically versatile, and in many cases, they can rescue you from wardrobe issues. Simply put one on over basic tanks and tees, cover problem hips, and cinch that belt to show off your waist! You can pack them on any spring or summer vacation because these pieces also make stylish cover-ups on the beach– and you can save space in your carry-on for what you buy on your trip.

And, of course, there’s always leggings for those of you who love to wear them! Tunics are great to wear with slimmer-styled jeans, and the silhouette is figure-friendly for anyone, as long as your get your proportions on track.

Pay Attention to Design Details
Did you fall in love with a tunic that seems a little bit long for you? Check out the design features, and it just might work for you after all. Check the side seams for elastic ruching or ties, which will make it seem shorter at the sides and somewhat at the front. Examine the sleeves– longer ones will drag the whole effect down, but perhaps you can roll up the sleeves and lighten up the silhouette a bit.

Enjoy your tunic looks! They are perfect for petite women, too, and you’ll be finding plenty that work in the near future.
