Just about given up looking for a size 14 top in a current style? Missphit is here to help. This Los-Angeles based team of Yul and Christina Kwon combine Parisian-taught design skills with a family business for just the right balance. From fresh new colors to updated styles, anyone sized 1X to 3X should be able to find a piece to covet this season. With “European chic and California cool,” Missphit makes each piece as though it’s going to be the focal point in your wardrobe. And why shouldn’t it be?

Tell us about your customers. Who are they and what’s their “style profile”?

Missphit women are stylish and sophisticated. They are trendsetters and are savvy about getting “the look” without spending an arm and a leg to do so. Missphit women are confident and enjoy being noticed – especially for their fashion forward sense of style. Our customers are feminine, flirty and enjoy flaunting the beautiful curves they have!

What other full-figured fashion brands do you admire or respect?

Svoboda Premium jeans because of their great cuts and quality. These jeans would pair up nicely with the tops and outerwear we offer.

Your designs are fun and youthful. Tell us your top look from your upcoming collection– and tell us how to dress it up or down!

Only a tiny fraction of all the hundreds of styles we develop each season end up going into production, so in a sense, all the styles that you see in stores and on our website are our top looks. If I had to choose one, I’d go with the style we call the Banded Tunic. It’s a light chiffon blouse with an amazing geometric border print that is held up by a hip-hugging stretch fabric band. Our customers have responded extremely well to the trendy tunic lengths and shapely banded bottoms so we combined the two popular features. The blouse comes with a full tank top underneath and is also accessorized with a beautiful beaded metallic necklace. I mean this style is fully-loaded!

The full-figured fashion world can be pretty competitive. What’s been your biggest challenge so far?

Our biggest challenge is trying to get mainstream retailers onboard as most big retailers and department stores tend to overlook plus-sizes. Dillards is one of the few that don’t which says a lot about how much they pay attention to their customers. Many don’t carry plus sizes and if they do, it’s hard to convince them to try our more fashionable styles since many have a hard time breaking away from the traditional “basics” that have sold in the past. I always show them our fantastic selling record with our retailers but it’s always hard to convince people to step out of their comfort zones. In the end, the plus-size consumer loses out. It’s unfortunate that women who wear a size 14 and up account for at least half the women’s clothing market but aren’t offered anything close to that of the selections offered to women in smaller sizes.

Where can we find Missphit? Is it just available online?

In addition to being available online, Missphit can be found at most Dillard’s department stores and at various boutiques not only in the United States but in Europe and Canada as well. Readers can locate the nearest retailer here.
